Online State Law Exams (OSLE)

Optometry licensure candidates may be required to take a state optometry law examination regarding the statutes, rules, and regulations that govern the practice of optometry in the state in which they seek licensure. Since January 2010, NBEO has offered the Online State Law Exam (OSLE) program to assist state boards by administering their optometry jurisprudence exams.

Three Examination Formats

Remote, open- book
In-house, proctored, open-book
In-house, proctored, closed-book

Scoring

Immediately following the completion of any OSLE exam, the designated state optometry board staff or department of health and services staff can review candidate scores on their password-protected OSLE administrative page. All OSLE candidates will see a results screen with a score and exam summary when a test is ended.

The states currently providing their law examinations through our OSLE program are listed below.
